Assignment:

Exchange theory has produced a variety of related theories and concepts. However, at the core of all exchange theory, people try to find a fair exchange of benefits and avoid undue or excess costs in relationships. It is a theory based on rational calculation and reduces relationships to a cost-benefit analysis. Although this argument has some merit, it appears to underestimate the nonrational elements in relationships. For example, emotions are basic nonrational elements of human behavior.

Critique exchange theory by applying the sociology of emotions theory. Can emotions be employed in rational choice? If so, how? And what are the limits of exchange theory?
