A fish uses an internal organ known as a swim bladder to change itsdensity so that it is equal to that of water, enabling it to remainsuspended under water (this condition is known as neutral buoyancy, when the magnitude of the buoyant force is equal to the magnitudeof the weight). The swim bladder is an internal sac which can beinflated with air. A fish has an average density of 1090 kg/m3, anda mass of 1.25 kg with the bladder completely deflated. It isswimming in water of density 1050 kg/m3.
a) Calculate the volume to which the swim bladder must be inflatedin order for the fish to achieve neutral buoyancy. You may assumethat the mass of air in the inflated swim bladder is negligiblecompared to the mass of the fish
b) If the fish suddenly swims into a layer of warmer water, with adensity of 1047 kg/m3, does it start to rise to the surface orsink, if it does not adjust the swim bladder volume again? Explainyour reasoning.
