A frictionless piston-cylinder contains 3.0 kg of H2O and is initially at 300 kPa. The initial volume is 1.0 m3. The water is heated until the temperature is 300 C. If the volume within the system reaches 1.5 m3, the piston hits a set of stops and is restrained from further travel.

a. Determine the initial temperature

b. If the piston reaches the stops, calculate the temperature and pressure when the piston first touches, but exerts no force on, the stops. If the piston doesn't reach the stops, calculate the final volume of the system. Clearly show your logic in determining whether or not the piston hits the stops.

c. Calculate the work for the entire process.

d. Calculate q for the entire process

e. Show the process on P-v and T-v diagrams.
