We learned that a room-full of gas is actually pretty heavy, and this can be used to our advantage. For example, if you want to measure something tall, you can measure the atmospheric pressure difference from its top to its base, and actually use that difference to estimate the object’s height (most inexpensive altimeters work this way). If I give you a pressure gage accurate to within 20 Pa (0.003 Psi), and send you to Venus where the atmosphere is (most likely) gaseous methane, calculate the uncertainty in the height measurement of a Venetian mountain in meters. Assume the density of methane in Venus’ atmosphere is 0.66 kg m-3 and the acceleration due to gravity on Venus is 8.87 m s-2
