Business Scenario:

You work for a well-known global financial company that has just bought its top competitor for $15 billion. Everyone is excited about the merger. It is also perfect timing. Your company has just launched a new Big Data strategy that will incorporate two technologies. One is Tableau, a reporting and visualization tool. The other is Hortonworks which uses Apache Hadoop. The purchasing and licensing for Tableau is roughly $10 million a year. For Hortonworks, the cost is $50 million for consulting services this year. The Big Data strategy is estimated to cost the company $500 million. But the investment is well worth it. Your executive team will be able to get the information they need within hours rather than weeks. Your company's sales team will also experience an increase of 25% in productivity, which will provide a savings of $2 million per year. This will allow the business development department to conduct a deeper analysis into the market. Your company's IT department will experience a savings of 10%, approximately $10 million per year, from maintaining infrastructure costs. This new technology will make it easier for your company to acquire less expensive IT talent. And sales are expected to increase by 10%, by $50 million a year from the product lines the Big Data strategy will be supporting.
