1. You have a 134.0g sample of CO2 at -230 oC. You heat it until you have gaseous CO2 at 312 oC. Calculate the total energy required for this process. You will need to find some additional information - heat capacities, phase changes, etc.

2. N2 and O2 make up the majority of the Earth%u2019s atmosphere with partial pressures of 0.78 and 0.21 atm, respectively. These two gases are extremely stable at normal atmospheric temperatures. Inside of a lightning bolt, however, temperatures are hot enough that these two species react to form NO. You can use the following assumptions: the temperature is 2200 oC inside the lightning bolt, the bolt lasts long enough for all three species to reach equilibrium at that temperature, and the pressure of NO is 0.001 atm at equilibrium. Calculate the standard free energy change %u0394Go for these conditions. (Note- this calculation will have some error in it because the gases are not in their standard states but we are calculating standard free energy. The point here is to see how different chemistry topics interact with each other (e.g. equilibrium and free energy).
