A rigid rectangular shelf is suspended from a rigid ceiling by mean of four rods of diameter .505 inches. The two rods to the left L1 and L2, are made of steel. The two rods to the right R1 and R2 are made of aluminum. Two weights are positioned on the platform - the larger weight of 10 kips at the left and the smaller weight of 5 kips to the right. The Est = 30E3 ksi, Eal=16E3 ksi, Vst=.3, and Val=.33

a. calculate the stress in L1 and L2

b. calculate the stress in R1 and R2

c. calculate the axial strain and the transverse strain in the steel rods.

d. Calculate the axial strain and the transverse strain in the aluminum rods.

e. If the original length of all four rods is 10ft, calculate the total axial deformation in the steel rods.

f. If the original length of all four rods is 10ft calculate the total axial deformation in the aluminum rods.
