Torque on a Merry-Go-Round
A) A day-care worker pushes tangentially on a small hand-driven merry-go-round and is able to accelerate it from rest to a spinning rate of 18.7 rpm in 11.3 s. Assume the merry-go-round is a disk of radius 2.60 m and has a mass of 820 kg, and two children (each with a mass of 25.7 kg) sit opposite each other on the edge. Calculate the torque required to produce the acceleration, neglecting frictional torque.
B) What force is required?

In trying to move across a slippery icy surface, a 175-lb man uses two ropes AB and AC. Knowing that the force exerted on the man by the icy surface is perpendicular to that surface, determine the tension in each rope.
