Calculate the thermal energy provided to the electrons at room temperature. You will find that this energy is much smaller than the band gap of silicon. Thus, no intrinsic electrons should be in the conduction band of silicon at room temperature. Still, according to your calculations in Problem 1, there is a sizable amount of intrinsic electrons in the conduction band at T = 300 K. Why?
