Question 1 - The questions has several parts. Solve every part carefully.
Consider the lever with a solid circular cross section. BD is parallel to x axis and AB is along y axis. The lever has a diameter = 1.2 in a load P = 150 Uo is applied to one end of the lever at D (Parallel to z and perpendicular to x-axis).


1. The cross section containing the point H has center at C.
(i) Find the Torque (T) acting on member AB. Due to P.
(ii) This Torque would cause torsion of member AB. Which is turn would cause a shear stress (zxy) at H. Find zxy.
(iii) P will also produce a bending moment at the cross section. Find Mx.
(iv) Mx would lead to a normal stress (Ey) at H. Find Ey.
2. At point H
(i) Find principle stresses E1,2.
(ii) Find orientation (Qp) of principle plane with x and y axis.
(iii) Find maximum shear stress (Zmx).
(iv) Draw Mohr's circle and show E1,2, Qp Zmax , Zxy, Ey on the circle.
Question 2 - Draw bending moment shear force diagram?

Question 3 - Given Bar AD is rigid and suspended from four identical wires. Calculate the tension in each wire when a load P = 10 kN is applied at C.

Question 4 - Given figure

(a) Find the centroid of the cross section.
(b) Find the moment of inertia about the centroid.
