information to answer the following question. Show your work in as much detail as possible.

One-tailed test

State the research and the null hypotheses in statistical notation.

Calculate the t statistic and test the null hypothesis at the .05 significance level.

Do you reject the null hypothesis?

What conclusion(s) do you draw as a result of the hypothesis test?

Two-tailed test

State the research and the null hypotheses in statistical notation.

Calculate the t statistic and test the null hypothesis at the .05 significance level.

Do you reject the null hypothesis?

What conclusion(s) do you draw as a result of the hypothesis test?

The 2008 GSS data showed that the average educational attainment for liberals is 13.90 years (Sy1=3.27) and the average

educational attainment for conservatives is 13.55 (Sy2=2.82). Data are based on 187 liberals and 277 conservatives.

Assuming unequal variances in the two subpopulations perform a two-tailed test to find out if there is a difference in level of

education between liberals and conservatives.

State the research and the null hypotheses in statistical notation.

at the .05 significance level (95% confidence level).

Do you reject the null hypothesis?

What conclusion(s) do you draw as a result of the hypothesis test?
