During a sunny day at the beach on Long Island, the land temperature is warmed to 32 °C, while the ocean temperature is only warmed to 20 °C.

i. Assuming that the surface pressure over both land and ocean is 1020 hPa, estimate the pressure 1 km aloft over both locations.

ii. If the two locations are 1 km apart, estimate the strength of the pressure gradient force due to the pressure difference that you calculated above. For this estimation, use a density that is the average of the densities you calculated in part i.

iii. Assume that this pressure difference generates a sea breeze circulation with wind speed of 10 m/s. Calculate the strength of the Coriolis force acting on this wind. Is this wind in geostrophic balance?
