You have been hired to design a machine for a panel board 'manufacturer. The panel board product consists of a 'A" thick wood panel with traditional wallpaper attached to one side. The automated production line includes conveyor A on which the panel board travels with the wallpaper side up, and conveyor B on which the panel is to travel in the opposite direction with the wall paper side down, to facilitate curing of the wallpaper adhesive. Your machine is to automatically pick up the panel board from the unloading roller stand at the end of conveyor A (with the wallpaper side up) and set it with the wallpaper side down on the drying conveyor B. Your machine should be a four bar mechanism with all pivot joints to provide good reliability and repeatability at low cost. Then add a dyad driver to permit a Single gear-motor to continuously drive your 4 bar. The motor driver dyad should include a quick return of time ratio of at least 1.4. The panel boards arrive at the unloading roller stand at the rate of 3 boards per minute. Your mounting pivots cannot interfere with existing equipment or be below the floor. To reduce cost, short links are preferred.

Project Outline

A. Position/Design: Drawing at pickup and drop off position as well as 1 intermediate position. Cardboard model of your design and position trace of 2 edges of panel board.

B. Velocity: Select motor speed to meet 3 panel boards per minute cycle time. Calculate velocity at all pivots for 3 positions (1. Just after pickup, 2. An intermediate position near midpoint of travel and 3. Just before release of panel).

C. Acceleration: Calculate the acceleration for the all pins at the 3 positions for which velocity was determined. Calculate the acceleration of the center of mass of each link at the 3 positions.

D. Force: Calculate the static and dynamic forces in all pins at the three positions.

E. Computer: Make a computer model (in WORKING MODEL software package) to calculate above data (v, a, and F) and plot through entire motion range.

F. Prototype: Construct a scale prototype of your design.

G. Final Report: Compile a written report discussing your design and analysis results. Include recommendations for further progress on this project.
