1. It tells us the count of times the unit is contained in a given quantity - Physical Quantity

2. The simplest forms of physical quantities - Fundamental Quantities

3. The units used to describe derived quantities - Derived Units

4. The system of units that used foots, pounds, and seconds as basic quantities - English System, FPS

5. The prefix added to the name of quantity to signify that the quantity is increased by 1 million. -

II.  Which of the following does not belong to the group? Encircle the letter of your choice.

1. a. length   b. time     c. area   d. temperature

2. a. volume   b. electric current   c. density    d. speed

3. a. meter      b. ampere   c. mole  d. newton

4. a gram  b. watt        c. pascal      d. square meter

III. Distinguish between the ff.:

1. Mass and weight

2. Calorie and joule

3. Calorie and kilocalorie

4. Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature scale

5. Density and specific gravity

IV. Convert the following and express your answer in scientific notation:

1. 7.5 kilograms =  7.5 x 10____________g

2. 3 microampere = 3 x 10__________ A

3. 4.6 milliseconds  =  4.6 x 10______________ sec

4. 1.2 gigavolts =  1.2 x 10______________ V

5. 875 kg / m3 to g/ml

6. 1 g/ ml to lb/ft3

7. 24.8 lb to mg

8. 8.5 qt to ml

9. 525 ft/ min to cm /sec

10.  -120oF to oK

V. Problem Solving:

1. The tallest living man today, as recorded, is Allam Chamna of Pakistan. He is 8 feet and 3 inches tall. What is his height in meter?

2. Light travels with a speed of 3 x 108 m/s. Express speed in km/hr.

3. A cube is 2 inches on one side. It weighs 25 g. Find its density in lb/ft3. Density = mass / volume.

4. A runner can run 100 meters in 10.5 sec.  In how many seconds will he run 100 yards.

5. A mountain bike's wheel has diameter of 40 inches.  In how many turns will the bike be able to cover 1 km?

Circumference of a circle = (pi)(radius)2

Radius = diameter / 2

6. What is the weight in kilograms of 1 ft3 if 1 cm3 of it weighs 0.30 g?

7. For each gas there is a temperature above which it is impossible to liquefy the gas no matter how high is the applied pressure. This is called the critical temperature. Helium has critical temperature of 5.3 0K.  Find its equivalent in 0F.

8. During winter, the temperature in some parts of the United States may drop to 4 0C below. What is this temperature in 0 F?

9. Calculate the specific heat of exactly 150 cal of heat will raise the temperature of 18.5 g of a liquid from 22 to 44 oC.

10. Calculate the specific gravity of a substance with a density of 3.75 g/ ml.
