Question 1:
Figure 2 shows a reinforced concrete flanged beam and cantilever, with a section through the cantilever showing the reinforcement at its support.
The beam is loaded with a uniformly-distributed permanent load (including self-weight) and two concentrated variable loads, as shown.
(i) From the reinforcement details shown, calculate the maximum characteristic value of the point load (FQ2) at the tip of the cantilever.
(ii) Calculate the spacing of the shear reinforcement at the left of the cantilever support.
(iii) Calculate the maximum design moment in the main span of the beam. Hence calculate the main flexural reinforcement at the point of maximum bending moment! (Assume two layers of tension reinforcement; flange width= 1000 mm.)
