Question: Pheasant (1986) recommended the use of rapid anthropometrics scaled for height (RASH) technique to estimate the body dimensions of populations whose anthropometry is unknown. The technique requires data on the stature of the target population. These data are normally available from medical records. RASH estimates are made by calculating scaling factors for the anthropometric variables of interest using data from a known population and then applying these scaling factors to the height data in the target population. Suppose we want to estimate the sitting height of Chilean bus drivers, but have no data on the anthropometry of the Chilean population, where do we begin? Obtain data on the stature of the drivers from medical records and calculate the mean and standard deviation stature (all data are in centimeters). x = 166, sd = 5.5 Obtain data on the mean and standard deviation stature and popliteal heights of a similar group of people, assuming that body proportions will be similar. We will use data for Brazilian males.
