According to the equipartition theorem , the average energy of any degree of freedom is 1/2 kT.

Estimate the root mean square speed of a helium atom at 15 degrees celcius.

Repeat for N2.

Compare both results with the escape speed at earths surface. Why is helium not a constituent of earth's atmosphere?
