Objectives:

Conceptual objective: To study some basic quantities in alternating current (AC) circuits.

Experimental objective: To perform measurements in circuits with capacitors and inductors.

Prediction questions:

Question 1: The electrical energy is supplied to the US households as sine wave at frequency of 60 Hz and rms value of the voltage very close to 120V. Calculate the amplitude of the voltage.

Question 2: Electrical cooling fans use an internal capacitor for better utilization of the electrical energy. A typical value of these capacitors is 1 RF. Calculate the capacitive reactance of this capacitor when used in an US household.

Question 3: Calculate the resonant frequency in a series RLC circuit with C=30 pF, R=200 Q, and L=2 mH.
