Question: Given that the density of nitrogen at one atmosphere of pressure and 0 ?C is 1.2506kgm-3 and that of oxygen at the same temperature and pressure is 1.429kgm-3, calculate the relative volumes of the two gases that combine to form the compounds named above. If you do this problem correctly, you will discover what Gay-Lussac discovered. These results are shown in Table.
