Inherited Traits Project
Question: Select one of the below genetically inherited traits. Handclasp with right thumb on top Attached ear lobes Tongue rolling Cleft chin Hitchhiker's thumb Cheek dimples Widow's peak hairline Color blindness Freckles Handedness Mid-digital hair Toe length Do some internet research about your trait to find the following information and include it in your report.
Dominant/recessive expression (which version of the trait shows dominant or recessive inheritance) Chromosome/locus mapping (has the gene been mapped to a specific locus/chromosome? If so, where? Try a simple google search to find this information). If you cannot find the chromosomal location, you must state that in your report. Add any interesting details you find about the trait.
Conduct a survey of at least 30 individuals, record data about the inherited trait. How did you find the participants? Calculate the percentage of individuals with the dominant and recessive trait. Do not survey related individuals. Genes run in families and your results will be skewed. (# of people with the trait divided by the total # of people) Prepare a typed report (150-500 words) discussing the research and survey results of your chosen inherited trait.
Add any interesting details about your chosen trait and how you chose the individuals for your survey. Show your survey data in a table and graph (pie chart, bar graph). Submit one complete document.
Required report items: 150-500 words covering the three items above (a, b, c). Table of data Graph (pie chart or bar graph
