Air enters a packed column containing 0.015 mol fraction of soluble component A. This is to be reduced to 1% of this value by contacting it with water which is free of A. The gas flow rate is 1 kg m-2 s-1 of and the water entering is 1.6 kg m-2 s-1. For this system Henry’s law holds and ye=1.75x, where ye is the mol fraction of A in the vapour in equilibrium with a mole fraction of x in the liquid. Using the log mean driving force, calculate:

(b) The number of gas transfer units.

(c) The number liquid transfer units.
