The structural steel has a tensile or compressive yield strength of = 248 MPa and a shear strength of 150 MPa. The beam assembly is supported and loaded as shown in Fig. 3c. Considering the lower beam ABCD,

 a. Determine Iz for the combined section.

(3) b. Determine the maximum allowable load P based on the tensile or compressive yield strength.

(3) c. Determine the maximum allowable load P based on the shear strength.
