Assume that a bacterium can be idealized as a sphere of radius R. In order to survive, the bacterium needs oxygen. Consider an in?nite suspending medium with an oxygen concentration co. As the bacterium consumes oxygen, the oxygen around the bacterium gets depleted.

a) Assume that every oxygen molecule reaching the bacterium's surface gets immediately absorbed. Find the full concentration pro?le c(r) of oxygen molecules in the bacterium's vicinity.

b) Calculate the maximum number of oxygen molecules per time that the bacterium can consume.
