A coal-burning power plant generates electrical power at a rate of 500 megawatts; that is, 500 X 10 to the 6th power pr 5.00 X 10 to the 8th power joules per second. The plant has an overall efficiency of 0.375 for the conversion of heat to electricity. Assuming the power plant burns coal that releases 30 kJ/g, calculate the mass of coal (in grams and metric tons) that will be burned in 1 year of operation (1 metric ton = 1 X 10 to the 3rd power kg = 1 X 10 to the 6th power g).
