Steam enters the turbine in a vapor power plant at 1600 psia and 1000 degrees F (State 1) and expands to a pressure of 1 psia (State 2); isentropic efficiency of the turbine is 85%. Saturated liquid water (State 3) exits the condenser and is pumped back to 1600 psia (State 4); isentropic efficiency of the pump is 70%. The power plant produces a net power of 125 MW. The cooling water flowing through the condenser experiences a temperature increase of 12 degrees F. (a) Calculate thermal efficiency (%) of the power plant. (b) What is the mass flow rate (lbm/hr) of steam through the power plant? (c) Calculate the mass flow rate (lbm/hr) of cooling water. (d) Find the entropy generation (Btu/lbm-R) for the turbine and pump. (e) Show the cycle on T-s diagram. Label states, show property values, and indicate appropriate lines of constant pressure.
