A population of cougars ranges in an area of 600 square miles. A study of the population yielded thefollowing data: year 1 total number of cougars at beginning of the year 389; number of cougar births during the year 15; number of cougar deaths during the year 12.

a. Calculate the logistic growth rate of this population using Year 1 data.

b. Suppose human activity decreases the amount of available habitat for this species, reducing the carrying capacity of the remaining habitat to 420 cougars and increasing the annual death rate to 13. Calculate the logistic growth rate of the population under these new conditions.
