A vertical cylinder fitted with a piston contains 10 lbm of Freon-12 at 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat is now transferred to the system, causing the piston to rise until it reaches a set of stops, at which point the volume has doubled. Additional heat is transferred until the temperature inside reaches 200 degrees Fahrenheit, at which point the pressure inside the cylinder is 175 lbf/in^2. You are asked to do the following after you have drawn a neat and readable schematic of the system and its various stages from initial to the end of the process: a) Represent the entire process on P-v, T-v and T-s diagrams. Explain each diagram. b) What is the quality of the initial state? c) Is there work done by the system? If so, calculate the work done. List any assumption made in the calculation. d) Calculate the heat transfer for the overall process through a systematic application of the energy balance principle on a clearly defied control volume(s). Clearly define all symbols used in solving the problem.
