Question 2. A tank has a base dimension of 1.5m X 1.5m. The tank is filled up to 2m from the bottom by oil of specific IN-ei ght 9 KN/m3. Find the resultant force on one side and the depth of the centre of pressure from the oil surface.

Question 3. A pipeline conveying freshwater to a city has internal radius of 120 ctrl and external diameter of 125 cm. The pipe line is laid across the bed of a river with suitable anchorages at 3m intervals along its length. The river water depth is 2.0m. Calculate the upward force on an anchorage when the pipeline is flowing full. Calculate upward force on the anchorage when the pipeline is empty. Assume. density' of steel is 7900 kg/m3 and that of water is 1000 kg/m3.

Question 4. A pipe line of 1.25 m diameter has a circular gate at its end. This gate cail be operated around its horizontal diameter. If the pipe is flowing fall with velocity almost equal to zero, calculate the turning moment required to operate the gate.

Question 5. Determine the readings of pressure gauges A, B, C and D in the enclosed vessel. Gauge B is connected to compartment 1 but inside compartment 2, and Gauge C is connected to compartment 2 but inside compartment L. The end of the manometer is opened to the atmosphere. Assume density of water is 1000 kg/m3

Question 9. A circular gate of 0.6 m radius is hinged so that it rotates about its horizontal diameter, i.e; it rotates about a horizontal line passing through the centroid of the gate. The gate is at the end of a pipe discharging to a river. Measured above the centroid of the gate, the head in the pipe is 7 m while the head in the river is 3 m. Assuming that the gate is initially vertical

a) Calculate the force exerted by the water in the pipe on the gate, and the distance GP between the centre of the gate, 0, and the centre of pressure P

b) Calculate the force exerted by the river water on the gate, and the distance GP

c) By taking moments about the hinge, using the results from above determine the net turning moment on the gate caused by the two forces acting at their respective centres of pressure on opposite sides of the gate.
