In separate experiments, 50.00 mL samples of 0.0150 mol L-1 C6H5COOH(aq) and 0.0150 mol L-1 HNO3 are each titrated with 0.0100 mol L-1 NaOH(aq) at 25 °C.

For C6H5COOH, pKa=4.21 at 25 °C.

Calculate the following for each titration and enter your answers in the boxes provided. (For you to think about: Which of the quantities are the same for the two titrations?)

Titration of C6H5COOH Titration of HNO3

(a) Volume of NaOH

required to reach

the equivalence point VNaOH =     mL VNaOH =  mL

For part (a), enter volumes accurate to 2 decimal places.

(b) pH before any

NaOH(aq) is added pH =     pH =

For parts (b)-(e), enter pH values accurate to 2 decimal places.

(c) pH at the half-

neutralization point pH =     pH =

(d) pH at the

equivalence point pH =     pH =

(e) pH after the

addition of 80.00 mL

of NaOH(aq) pH =    pH =
