Problem- Acetic acid is commercially produced by reaction of methanol with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst.

CH3OH + CO yield(catalyst) CH3COOH

a) Calculate the equilibrium constant for this reaction at 25oC from DGo. Is this reaction spontaneous at this temperature?

b) 0.5 atm of each reagent is placed inside a sealed container and reacted. What temperature does the reaction have to be heated to in order to be spontaneous?

c) How does catalyst removal affect DG? Why?
