a. Obtain two general expressions (in terms of measureable quantities) for the entropy change dS that accompanies the reversible expansion of an ideal gas, first using T and V as independent variables, and then T and P. Your result should be in the form dS = MdT + NdV (or NdP). Also obtain simplified expressions for the special case of an isothermal reversible expansion.

b. Calculate the entropy change when 5 moles of an ideal gas expands from 10 liters to 100 liters isothermally and reversibly at 300 K. Repeat for an irreversible, isothermal expansion at 300 K from 10 to 100 liters against a constant opposing pressure of 1 atm.

c. Create an isolated system by including the surroundings with the gas in part b. Calculate the overall entropy change for this isolated system, for both the reversible and irreversible processes.
