A new plant oil is discovered that is easy to recover from the plant and it might be a useful fuel. A question is the energy density of the fuel. In a calorimeter (cartoonized in slide 25 class 5) you combust 10 grams of the oil. The calorimeter has a volume of 1 liter. After the combustion is complete and the system reaches internal equilibrium, the temperature of the water has increased from 20 oC to 900C. Calculate the energy-density of this "new fuel" as indicated by this experimental apparatus. For comparison, the energy density of olive oil is about 37 kilojoules/gram.
