ABC Plc had 50, 000, 000 ordinary shares in issue. On 1 October 2017 ABC Plc made a rights issue of 1 for every 5 shares held at a price of $1. Ex-rights price was $1.30. The earnings for the year ended 31 December 2016 and 31 December 2017 were $12, 000, 000 and $12, 500, 000 respectively.

Problem i). Calculate the earnings per share for the year ended 31 December 2016 and 31 December 2017.
