Question: Calculate the degrees of freedom for a one-sample t test and a twoindependent-sample t test and locate critical values in the t table.

• The degrees of freedom for a t distribution are equal to the degrees of freedom for sample variance: n- 1. As the degrees of freedom increase, the tails of the corresponding t distribution change, and sample outcomes in the tails become less likely.

• The degrees of freedom for a one sample t test are (n - 1); the degrees of freedom for a two-independent sample t test are (n1 - 1) + (n2 - 1).
