Consider a location where direct and indirect radiations are 60 % and 40 % respectively. The solar intensity is 7 kWH/m2/day and the average yearly temperature is 350C. Assume ideal cases and only temperature related loses of PV modules are considered. The cost of 1 MWp (AC power) installed system (30 years power generation) is $2.0 million. The module efficiency is 20 % at standard conditions of 250C. For each degree rise in temperature the efficiency reduces by 0.35 %. No loan is taken and all money is paid in cash. Also this system is exempted from any kind of tax. There is no other expense and the system will operate for 30 years without any other expense. Assume no loss of efficiency for 30 years. Calculate the cost of generated electricity in $/kWH. In other case Trackers have the ability to increase power generated by direct radiation by 40 %. However, the cost of installed system (including trackers) will be $2.60 million. Calculate the cost of generated electricity in the second case. Based on the two calculations suggest whether for low cost of generating electricity whether should we use trackers or not?
