(1) Using Figure 1 and 9C in the paper by Carr & Konishi (1990), compute the conduction velocities for the ipsilateral and contralateral axons from the nucleus magnocellularis (NM) within the nucleus laminaris (NL). Assume that the NM axons travel in a straight line, perpendicular to the dorsomedial surface of NL. Show your work and explain your reasoning in 100 words or less.
Figure 1 shows both the cochlear nuclei (NA, NM) and the nucleus laminaris (NL).
Figure 9C shows a plot of latencies from 5 penetrations through the nucleus laminaris. Latencies of isilateral (i) and contralateral (c) axons measured at the dorsal border of the nucleus are in columns marked iD and cD, respecively, and latencies measured at the ventral border are marked iV and cV. The position of the mean of each column are indicated by a bar. ( the mean latencies: iD = 2.8 msec, iV=3.0 msec, cV= 2.9msec, cD=3.1 msec)
in guinea pigs yellow coat color is produced by homozygous genotype YY, cream color by heterozygous genotype YW and white by homozygous WW.
What component of root-tip cells is stained by Safranin in the permanent mount of a longitudinal section of a corn root tip? What component of root-tip cells does Fast Green stain? What could different stains such as these indicate with respect to ce..
What are the physical changes needed in the body that would require to happen in order for our bodies to live forever. Changes such as telomerase activity, collagen flexibility, environmental changes, role of the immune system, DNA repair enzymes:..
The bases in this "glyceronucleic acid" are symbolized as B, D, H, and U. The monomers are linked during phospodiester bonds and the bases form hydrogen bonds between the strands according to the following rules; for every B, there are twice as many ..
In Staphylococcus epidermidis, bacillus subtilis and escherichia coli, which one has gram- positive, which one has gram-negative? Also, which organism is the biggest? Which one is the least.
Frank found himself in the midst of an ethical dilemma at work, and was using an ethical decision-making matrix, to address his work and personal values. Frank was most likely in which phase of the Ethical Decision-Making Framework.
A man drops a baseball off of the top of the Empire State Building. If the action force is the pull of the Earth on the ball, then what is the reaction force. What is the most possible diagnosis of the condition described? Explain.
I in brief describe how a mutation might alter gene function (at the molecular level) if it fell into the following categories. As an example, a neomorphic mutation could result from expressing a gene in a novel location.
The value of neutrons and protons a molecule have determine a molecules "Molecular Weight". An important part of working a laboratory involves making molar solutions.
Describe the general clinical picture of a person whose adrenergic receptors have been stimulated. Suppose you may group the response according to the various type of adrenergic receptors?
There is a population of 100 frogs. Twenty are heterozygotes, 30 are homozygous recessive, 25 are homozygous dominate. What is the frequency of the dominate allele?
Albinism is a condition that results from the lack of normal pigmentation. In humans, individuals with two recessive alleles at ALBINO (aa) locus are albino.
