Problem 12.28: Use the UNIFAC equation to do the following calculations for the system methanol(1)- acetic acid(2): a) Calculate the bubble pressure of a solution that contains 80% (by mole) methanol at 80 °C. b) Do you expect the volume of the system to expand or to contract upon mixing the pure components? c) Calculate the fugacity of methanol in solution with acetic acid at xMeOH = 0.8, 80 °C, 0.4 bar. d) Repeat the previous calculation at the bubble pressure of the solution instead of 0.4 bar. e) Calculate the chemical potential of methanol in solution with acetic acid at xMeOH = 0.8, 80 °C, 0.4 bar. The reference state is the pure liquid at 80 °C, 0.4 bar. f) Repeat the previous part if the reference state is the pure liquid at saturation at 80 °C. Additional data: The saturation pressures of methanol and acetic acid at 80 °C are 1.81 and 0.2763 bar, respectively.
Devise a control system for this reactor, and draw up a preliminary piping and instrument diagram. The following points need to be considered:
Under what circumstances and for what kinds of disabilities would the CLI be superior to or be preferred over the GUI?
What were the materials used in the implant? What were the advantages of the materials used and what was the surface texture of these implants? How did this contribute to the biocompatibility of the implant?
Neglecting stator resistance and rotational losses, and assuming constant rotor resistance, determine the slip at maximum torque and the slip at full load.
If a 500-hp, 90% efficient synchronous motor, operating at full load and 0.8 leading power factor, is added instead of the capacitor in part (a), calculate the resulting power factor.
At no load, rated voltage, and 1200 r/min, the armature current is 3 A. At full load and rated voltage, the line current is 40 A, and the flux is 5% less than its no-load value because of armature reaction. Compute the full-load speed.
Using the steam tables estimate cp in (kj/kg k) , for super heated steam and 0.1 Mpas and 700deg c
Draw the graph carefully. Please use one graph per country and show both the autarkyand the free trade equilibrium on each graph.
You add an aqueous solution of lead nitrate to an aqueous solution of potassium iodide. Draw highly magnified views of each solution individually, and the mixed solution including any product that forms.
The total lung capacity of a patient is 5.5 liters. Find the patient's inspiratory reserve volume if the patient's vital capacity was 4.2 liters, the tidal volume was 500 ml, and the expiratory reserve volume was 1.2 liters.
A sealed tank contains saturated steam at 5 bar. The volume of the tank is1m3. Heat is added until the pressure in the tank pressure doubles. What is the final temperature?
Determine the output voltage. Then indicate how the circuit may be modified to perform as a summer.
