A satellite in a circular orbit around the earth with a radius 1.011 times the mean radius of the earth is hit by an incoming meteorite. A large fragment (m = 75.0 kg) is ejected in the backwards direction so that it is stationary with respect to the earth and falls directly to the ground. Its speed just before it hits the ground is 371.0 m/s.
(A) Find the total work done by gravity on the satellite fragment. RE 6.37·103 km; Mass of the earth= ME 5.98·1024 kg. The work done by gravity must equal the change of potential energy of the satellite fragment. Use the general formula for Gravitational Potential Energy, NOTe: PE = mgh, is only valid for small distances above the surface.
(B) Calculate the amount of that work converted to heat.
Write down your expression in terms of the dipole moment. Express your reply in terms of, and appropriate constants.

An elevator has a downward acceleration of 1 m/s2. A person, having a weight of 800 N as measured by a scale at rest on the ground, steps on a scale in the elevator. What does the scale read? A) 0 N. B) Approximately 80 N. C) Between 80 N and 800 ..

The speed of sound in bone is 3500 m/s. How much time does it take the echo of a sound wave to travel from the back of the bone to the front of the bone if the bone is 2.50 cm thick.
Find out the magnitude of the impulse delivered to a soccer ball when a player kicks it with a force of 1350 . Assume that the player's foot is in contact with the ball for 6.00×10-3.
A thin, circular disc is made of lead and has a radius of 0.0350 cm at 20.0 °C. find out the change in the area of the circle if the temperature is increased to 625.0 °C. The coefficient of linear thermal expansion for lead is 29.0 x 10-6/C°.
An object placed on an equal-arm balance scale requires 12 kg to balance it. When object is placed on a spring scale, the spring scale reads 12 kg.
A 380-N, uniform, 1.50 m bar is suspended horizontally by two vertical cables at each end. A small object of weight 520 N is placed distance 0.5 m from the cable A. What is the tension in cable A.
How fast is the shadow of the plane moving along the ground? (That is, what is the magnitude of the horizontal component of the plane's velocity?)
A speeder is pulling directly away and increasing his distance from a police car that is moving at 23.0 m/s with respect to the ground. Calculate the speeder's speed with respect to the ground.
Determine how many times greater heat loss occurs through a glass window thats 80.0 cm high, 70 cm wide, and 0.300 cm thick (k = 0.791 W/m°C) than a electrical supply line running outside to an exterior mounted light.
