Race car teams will spend exorbitant money to gain even the slightest edge on their competition. At many oval race tracks, such teams even shift the location of the engine toward the inside of the turn in an effort to lower the moment of inertia of the race car with respect to an axis passing through the center of the curve. Such a car (known as a supermodified) is shown to the right. Notice the engine is placed between the left-side wheels. Obviously, this car is designed to turn only left. Suppose that the engine has a mass of 468 lb and is shifted in location 23.8 inches toward the inside of the curve. If the original moment of inertia of the engine with respect to the axis was 656167 kg/m2, calculate its percent change in moment of inertia. Note: To solve this problem, assume that the engine is relatively small in comparison to the radius of curvature of the track and that the radius of the track turn is R = 32.5 m.
A sphere of radius R is uniformly charged to a total charge of Q. It is made to spin about an axis that passes through its center with an angular speed ω. Find the magnitude of the resulting magnetic field at the center of the sphere.
A resistor is in the shape of a cube, with each side of resistance R . Find the equivalent resistance between any two of its adjacent corners.
