A desktop computer uses 60-250 W of power when active and 1-6 W of power when hibernating, depending on the model. An LCD monitor uses about 20-30 W of power, depending on the screen size. American Electric Power, the electric company for your town charges about 9.4 cents per kilowatt-hour. Determine how much money it costs to:
a. Keep the lower power-consuming computer and monitor on 24 hours a day for 12 months.
b. Keep the higher power-consuming computer and monitor on 24 hours a day for 12 months.
c. Calculate how much money is saved over 12 months in each case if the computer and monitor were on for 8 hours a day. For the remaining hours per day, the computer was in hibernate mode and the monitor is turned off.
