Application: Cable in a tunnel. A cable runs through a mine shaft suspended from the ceiling as shown in Figure. The cable is thin and carries a charge of 10 nC per meter. The shaft is 10 m in diameter. Calculate the electric field intensity at the center of the shaft (magnitude and direction). Assume ground is conducting, and the air in the shaft has permittivity of free space.
