The Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC) is an electron accelator that provides an oscillating \radio-frequency" (RF) electric field in the form of a wave that stays in synchronism with the electrons being accelerated. The RF electric field is longitudinal, enabling the electrons to gain energy at a gradient of about 7x10^6 eV/m over the mile length of the accelerator.

a. How much time does it take the electrons to travel the full length of SLAC's accelerator tube?

b. Calculate the distance at which electrons reach 90% of the speed of light.

c. Judged by observers in a frame moving at the same speed as the highest energy electrons emerging from the accelerator tube, how long, in meters, does SLAC appear to be?
