Homework: Social Science Paper
Description
For the homework, you will conduct a quantitative study that will include three parts: (i) Descriptive Statistics, (ii) Inferential Statistics, and (iii) Discussion of your findings.
You will choose a data set for this homework (See Step 1 - Excel Set Up)
To guide you in this homework, go through the 7 steps needed to complete the homework. You can access the 7 steps in this module and you can see the attched file for detial
• The 7 Steps provided in this module will give you the opportunity to submit a discussion post for Q&A and/or if you want me to review your work (this is optional)
Part I: Descriptive Statistics
Write a research question appropriate for descriptive statistics derived from the description of the dataset you chose (see Step 2)
Calculate descriptive statistics using Excel including: mean, standard deviation, variance, mode, & range (see Step 3)
A. Write your descriptive results in summary form including: mean, standard deviation, variance, mode, range, maximum and minimum (see Step 3)
Provide an interpretation of your descriptive findings (see Step 3)
Run a correlation between two variables providing the r-value (aka, correlation coefficient) for interpretation (ex. high positive linear correlation) (see Step 4)
B. Provide a scatterplot based on the two variables you ran in your correlation analysis (see Step 4)
Part II: Inferential Statistics
Write a research question appropriate for inferential statistics derived from the description of the dataset you chose (see Step 5)
State your steps for hypothesis testing including (see Step 6):
Null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis
A. Alpha level (state desired significance level/direction)
Calculate either an independent samples t-test (gender, age, etc.) OR a paired samples t-test (pulse 1 vs. pulse 2) in MS Excel. Choose One t-test (See Step 6)
Provide your results from the t-test (see Step 6)
D. Interpret the t-test findings (i.e., make a determination): Reject or retain the null hypothesis (see Step 6)
Part III: Discussion
A. Discuss the findings from your study (see Step 7).
