A study conducted in nursing homes in Denmark used QI improvement tools such as PDSA cycle to increase vitamin D and calcium supplementation for their residents. It was noted that many of the residents did not receive enough supplements to support their growing age as it helps support bone health. The residents were presented with information sheets that supported the daily recommendation and when they agreed to include in their care, nurses contacted HCPs to prescribe the supplement. The project supervisor worked closely with the residents and the nurse to weekly assess the effects of the implementation. The implementation was a success as, "at baseline, 32% of the residents had adequate doses of vitamin D and calcium. After implementation of the information sheet and adjustment to admission meetings, this increased to 65%" (Mortensen, 2022).
