You have a lab setup to investigate rigid body rotation. A uniform disk of mass 1kg and radius 10cm can rotate around its center. It is accelerated by a string that is would around the outside of the disk and pulled on by a mass of 1/4 kg. (see sketch) You start the experiment from rest. Make a free body diagram for the pulling mass and a torque diagram for the disk. write the relevant newton's equation for linear and rotary acceleration. solve for the unknown accelerations and tension in the string. Recall the relation between angular and linear acceleration! After 0.5 sec by what angle has the disk spun and what is its angular speed at that moment.
