When I think back to businesses facing issues, while it isn't terribly recent, I recall the issue of COVID restrictions in businesses. Here in Austin, Texas, the city was constantly going to war with the state and vice versa when it came to enforcing masks and asking to see vaccination cards. Many business owners (about 75% of them) wanted to be able to enforce what they thought was best for their businesses. Some business owners were clear they didn't care if a person wore a mask or not. Many business owners wanted their customers to at least wear a mask before entering their shop and usually had a sign outside the business warning as such. And even an smaller amount of business owners mandated that their customers were not allowed in with a mask. The city of Austin made it clear that they wanted the mask mandate enforced and gave businesses the ability to enforce such rules in their place of business (going back to having the right to refuse service). The state of Texas and the governor wanted the opposite. The governor mandated a state law that said no business was able to refuse business from someone because they chose not to wear a mask. Included with this was the ask for removal of all mask mandating signs from businesses. The city of Austin ended up suing the state of Texas and the state of Texas countersued. I couldn't find the end result of the lawsuit, however, the mask mandate is certainly over here in Austin and in Texas.
