What can hoteliers do to provide consistent service to business travelers in light of a global event?
When responding to the above questions, consider the characteristics of hospitality and the nature of tourism.Quick Trip 14.4 Balancing act
Business travelers have been known to brave natural disasters, terrorist threats, and unreasonable airline delays. We have become such an inter-connected world that global events affect each of us no matter where they happen throughout the world. In that, travelers have had to make themselves aware of potential threats and travel trends. Business travelers keep a large part of our business afloat and yet when there is a media-worthy global event then business travelers take the back seat. The recent royal wedding posed a great deal of hassle to business travelers. There were fewer plane seats available, they had to pay much higher prices for hotel rooms, and ground transportation was slow and congested. Speaking from a business perspective, London enjoyed a welcomed boost in tourism from the royal wedding. It was an opportune time to soak up the spotlight due to the extensive media coverage. Likewise, it was projected that many tourists would spend $80 million on the day of the wedding. With so much hustle and bustle associated with the big event, it's shocking that business travelers got any work done.
