Business Strategies for an Emerging International Market Report
Preliminary:
Select an industry of your choice. For example, it can be any one listed below but not limited to:
• Food and beverage
• Automobile
• Fashion retail
• Airline
• Education
From your choice of industry, select a company or a firm which must be from emerging country with a large scope of opportunity for internationalisation (i.e. one that currently has not done any or has a limited market internationalisation). This means that MNCs can NOT be chosen in this case essay. Select company, not international company and from emerging country.
You should select a company or firm that you can have a reasonable amount of information to search on for the report. For example, you can select a wellestablished or a well-known company or firm from your country or that you have done an internship/had employment in. Once you have selected the company or firm, you will resume the role of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The Report:
Acting as the CEO, prepare and write a Business Strategies for an International Market Proposal Report for your company or firm. This report will be presented to the Board of Directors or potential stakeholders who are interested to financially invest in your company or firm's expansion into an emerging international market.
The Proposal Report must include:
1. An overall profile of the company or firm including your proposed ethical values for engaging in international business
(based on topic week 2)
Your proposed values can either be the organisation's:
? current existing values
• a modified values of the existing ones or
• a new proposed values from the existing ones
2. An external analysis of the following external environment and implications for international expansion in emerging markets:
a. Macro external environment context (based on topic week 3)
b. The organisation's industry context (based on topic week 4)
A macro external analysis must be done for three to four emerging countries as doing on only one or two will not provide enough scope to compare and contrast between potential emerging markets.
The industry context analysis must include all of Porter's Five Forces (Model) followed by your assessment of the industry as a whole. The industry analysis can be based on either at a global level or at a regional level (no need for country by country level).
3. An internal analysis of the organisation's resources for international expansion in emerging markets (based on topic week 6)
The internal analysis must apply the VRIN model and framework as well as your interpretation of the resources based on the Resource Based View.
4. A SWOT analysis based on 2. and 3. for international expansion in emerging markets
(based on topic week 7)
Your SWOT analysis should include three tables/diagrams:
• The SWOT
• The external cell contents (OT) (Week 7 Lecture Notes slide 6)
• The SWOT positioning of Maxi-maxi/Maxi-mini (Week 7 Lecture Notes slide 7) - there is no need to add any other content in the SWOT such as strategies
5. A location selection assessment in an emerging market, based on the above SWOT analysis
(based on topic week 7)
6. Your entry strategy selection for the emerging market selected location, based on the above SWOT analysis
(based on topic week 8 and may include 9 or 10 depending on entry strategy selection)
There is no need to cover all types of entry modes options. Extracting from your SWOT diagram content, select three (3) possible entry modes option and compare and contrast their characteristics (present this in a table). Then select one of the three (3) entry modes option
7. A design of the company or firm for international expansion, based on the above SWOT analysis
(based on topic week 11)
There is no need to cover all types of structure designs. Extracting from your SWOT diagram content, select two (2) possible types of structure designs and compare and contrast their characteristics - structure and dimensions - (present in a table). Then select one of the two (2) structure design.
