ALL WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL AND DETAILED WITH REFERENCES

After reading the following passage, provide substantive feedback on why there is a business case for sustainability for the two chosen countries. You must support your response to your peer with well-researched information.

When considering business expansion in Thailand, the three largest concerns that would present unfavorable conditions would be the heightened political risk, the lack of progress on recognized labor rights concerns, and the potential loss of duty-free access for $1.3 billion in exports to the U.S. market (Peter, 2020).  As Peter (2020) explained, the concerns on labor and human rights spur from the country's use of millions of migrant workers who help drive the country's multibillion-dollar seafood industry.  As these practices are considered norms in Thailand, there is the potential for similar business practices to be carried over into industries where Sustainable Goods would seek business ventures, thus lacking control over how their supplier base treats their employees and if the goods are produced in manner that conforms with recognized and branded sustainable standards and practices.

When considering global expansion options in Japan, the three most significant concerns would be the significant cultural differences, elevated requirements for performance and quality standards, and the potential for future competition from Japan's recent focus on sustainable technologies.  As Thompson (n.d.) explained, during their post WWII reconstruction phase, Japan adopted quality-control theories from the U.S., but once Japan's economy became stabilized, they advanced their quality standards to new levels which many countries now try to emulate.  This requires any company considering business ventures in Japan to adhere to strict quality standards and expectations from the consumer base, which in Japanese culture the customer is placed as the priority for all business relationships.  Additionally, Sachs (2017) explained that Japan is setting the example in worldwide commitment to sustainable developments, to include their global development and partnership with developing countries.  With much of Japan's industry being focused on sustainable development, the potential for increased host nation competition remains high, thus making an initial business expansion in Japan challenging.
