Assessment Details
1. Summative Assessment: Individual PowerPoint Project Briefing
a. Project Scenario:
You have started working for a large coffee shop chain. Your boss has asked you to prepare a Project Brief for opening a new branch.
Here is what he has told you: "We have a strong brand and a well-established business of coffee shops in high street around the country, selling different kinds of coffee, fast food and beverage. Our core competitiveness is making good coffee with different kinds of flavour. In the next 6 months, I want to have a Local coffee shop for travellers in a mainline railway station as an experiment. We need to think about what those customers want, and about staffing. I don't know much about project management. Give me a document I can use to explain to my senior managers."
Write a Project Brief using Microsoft PowerPoint that covers the following topics:
1. Business rationale
2. Project objectives
3. Lifecycle
4. Timeline plan
5. Stakeholders
6. Communications
For each of the above six topics:
1. use one slide to explain what the topic is, to help your boss understand the value of project management [this shows your knowledge]
2. then use one to two slides to list information which is relevant to this project [this shows you can apply knowledge to a project context]
3. you may include some relevant pictures or diagrams.
Each Slide (target 20 slides in total) must have narrative text in the Notes field, to explain and amplify the short bullet points that you put on the Slide. You must submit a single PDF file containing both PowerPoint Slides and Notes.
This Notes text is the script that you would use if you were presenting the slides (target 120 words per Slide Note); in this case the assessor will be reading your text, to see how much you understand the topic and how well you can apply it into the project scenario provided.
b. Tips on constructing your coursework
1. If each of your Slides has around 30 words then across 20 Slides with their Notes, the target total word count comes to 3,000 words as required. Some individual Slides/Notes may have more and some less, but if your total is less than 3,000 words you are unlikely to have completed the coursework fully.
2. It is important that each Slide contains bullet points of one or two lines of simple text each, that are easy to read and understand. These bullets summarise the main points that you want to communicate. The Notes field for each Slide is where you write narrative text, like writing a section of an essay.
3. Make sure that you have consistent depth in your answers for each Topic. Spend more time working on the Topics that you find difficult, not less time.
4. You should include some academic citations in the Notes fields and make your last slide the reference list for these citations; use the Harvard standard for citations and reference list.
5. Here is an example of slide & notes layout and content (do not copy this text):
Project Stakeholder Theory Project Stakeholder definition: ... Typical Stakeholders in a project:
• Project members, ...
• Customers, ...
• etc ..
